The kids are now on holiday and after a very busy last two weeks, at last I can get a lie-in and enjoy a bit of time with the boys!
The second outing of my new show "Seven Deadly Sins" on 3rd July at the Abbey Pub in Darley Abbey went really well - we had a packed house and the performance had really grown from its first outing as part of the Flying Donkeys Fifth Wednesday Project in April. There are several further bookings of the show to took forward to (see dates below) and some of the pictures are now being used for the website banners. Here are a few audience comments from the night:
"An excellent storyteller - I was gripped!"
"It's only the break and I'm loving it! Sophie - you are a fantastic storyteller - and the stories - and the way you tell them - just get better!"
"Really enjoyed the delivery - compelling stuff!"
"Great fun - very enjoyable."
"10 out of 10! Very atmospheric and very absorbing."
"Very powerful and moving."
I also premiered a second new show, this month, being "Bastille" - a commission for a school in Cheshire looking to introduce and explain the French Revolution for children from Reception to Year 6. Quite a challenge! But it worked out really well. The piece is a 45 minute set of three French folk tales from the period that illustrate the socio-economic background to the revolution in an accessible way, framed by the story of the storming of the Bastille, and told partly in French (with translation!). Performing it 6 times in one day was a tour de force! The kids were all dressed for the occasion and partook with great fervour, listening really well and peppering me with questions. They were totally unphased by the French language too - fantastique!. If you are interested in booking this as part of a French week or History week or as a one-off school performance, do get in touch.
But my favourite moment of the week was at Warslow Festival, with the Flying Donkeys, where during a lovely summer's day ensconced in the storytelling tent, my youngest son Jasper took us by surprise as he suddenly launched into a storytelling performance of his own. With exciting twists and turns, dramatic dragons and adventurous boys, Jasper took us through a perfect 8 minute rendition of his own story - and he is only 5! Young Storyteller of the Year, here we come!
