"It is always a good sign when an hour speeds by, and storyteller Sophie Snell had the audience gripped from the outset. I was expecting some kind of plod through the seven deadly sins but instead Snell wove three disturbing British folk tales (all new to me) within a clever framing story...

"Snell has a way with words and is a very expressive performer who really knows how to tell a story and paint pictures in your head. Without spoiling the plot, I can tell you that certain images are indelibly printed on my consciousness... Viscerally thrilling as the show is... it is also intellectually satisfying with a near perfect overall structure and a neat twist at the end. Recommended."

Sophie Snell is a professional storyteller based just outside Derby. A warm, engaging and lively performer, Sophie regularly travels throughout the UK to entertain both children and adults at public events, festivals, storytelling clubs, schools, libraries and museums.

With a wide repertoire of stories, based largely on traditional folk tales plucked from the stones and bones of the British Isles and Northern Europe, she loves tales that twist and turn, finding the unexpected, the comical and the intriguing. Author of "The Pirate's Sister" and "Dragon's Tales", she also writes for children and adults.

With a background in senior management, Sophie works with both corporate and educational bodies, leading workshops and inset training sessions. Using the medium of oral storytelling, she creates tailored workshops for students of all ages (whether primary and secondary schools or corporate staff) to build confidence, creativity, oral, literacy and presentation skills.

"Bringing a story alive with voice, movement and humour, watching children giggling and entranced, or adults hooked by the story, is a magical life and I relish every moment of it!” Sophie Snell

Audience / client comments in 2009 / 10:

"To possess that charisma, that energy, that memory! Spellbinding and better than any film or tv!"

“Delightful storytelling - great fun and hugely enjoyable - we didn't want it to end! Sophie has a wicked sense of humour!”

"Compelling stuff - very powerful and moving."

"The Foundation Class teacher still speaks about your visit and how successful it was."

"Very engaging - the boys described your stories as "awesome!" and I have never seen that group so intent on listening, they were hanging on to every word!"

"Lively and engaging. Sophie's natural ability to tell a good tale captivated our audience. She really involved them and hoots of laughter echoed around this Tudor building. I can't wait to have her back again!"

"Whether it is human foibles or village intrigue, I love stories that connect people across time and culture. Stories that send a shiver down your back or make you laugh out loud. I admit to a real weakness for the folk tales of the countryside that embody all that is human - our passions and failings, and our response to the landscape - how it has grown and shaped our very essence."

"Those gifted with storytelling weave an invisible web that draws the listener into the tale without you realizing what’s happening. Sophie Snell is one of those storytellers whose voice mesmerizes you while images form in your mind as the tale unfolds."
